Thomas%20Rotheram
Probably the most eminent Rotheram so far was Thomas Rother(h)am (1423-1500). (The spelling varies, depending on the source.) His father was Sir Thomas Scott of Rotherham, and Thomas junior was born there. They appear to have moved later to Someries in Bedfordshire and the 'Scott' was dropped from the family name. During his career he was Catholic Bishop of Rochester (1468-72), Bishop of Lincoln, Archbishop of York, character in Shakespeare's Richard III and Lord Chancellor (1475-83).
